Small Business Week Calgary

Canada's largest celebration of small business

The purpose

Small Business Week Calgary 2018, which runs October 15-19, pays tribute to the contributions that small business make to the Canadian economy (those that are less than 100 employees). Its focus is on:

  • Uniting our city’s tireless, hard-working entrepreneurs under one tent to inspire and nourish the entrepreneurial spirit that powers Calgary’s economy—all through a full week of programming and events specifically tailored to their unique business needs.
  • Rallying the entire city together to shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of our small business community through the Small Business Calgary Awards. Together, we celebrate their achievements in exponential growth, innovation, social entrepreneurship, and company culture.

How Small Business Week got its start

In 1979, the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) business centres in British Columbia's Lower Fraser Valley pooled their resources to organize a week of activities for entrepreneurs.

Two years later, BDC decided to launch BDC Small Business Week™ across Canada.

The initiative was quickly adopted by Canada's business community and BDC Small Business Week™ has become a not-to-be-missed annual event for entrepreneurs.

Here in Calgary, ATB has powered the platform for the last 5 years.
