2012 Small Business Week Calgary

Awards and Expo

The pinnacle of Small Business Week is the awards presentation that reveals the emerging starts of the city's small business scene. In 2012, for the first time ever, the award winners were determined by an online vote after all nominations were shortlisted to 14 finalists. Awards were given out in five categories, as well as for the prestigious RBC Small Business of the Year.

On Thursday, October 18, 2012 at The Metropolitan Centre, finalists and guests were treated to a special keynote address by Zahra Al-Harazi, CEO of Foundry Communications. Al-Harazi is one of Calgary's top entrepreneurs. Her work in the business work has been recognized by Chatelaine magazine who last year acknowledged her as one of their Women of the Year, as well as the Women's Executive Network, which recently named her as one of Canada's Most Powerful Women.

"The groundswell of activity from Calgarians who voted for their favourite business has been awesome" said Adam Legge, Calgary Chamber president and CEO. "The Small Business Week awards give us a chance to celebrate those entrepreneurs and business owners that dream big and are always looking at ways to grow their business."

"Each finalist has shown how passion, hard work and dedication can turn a good idea into a great business" said Tazmoon Ratansi, Sales Manager for Small Business with RBC. "Congratulations to Elevate Auctions for showing incredible entrepreneurial spirit and making Calgary's small business community stronger than ever."
